What’s this all about?
Honestly? I’m not entirely sure, and that’s what keeps it exciting. Painting is my one pursuit that’s purely for its own sake—no judgment, no requirements. It’s a space where I can explore freely, discovering more about myself with each piece.
I spent my high school and college years in art schools, though, strangely enough, painting wasn’t something I was particularly drawn to. Drawing came naturally—my teachers thought I had talent—so I focused more on refining that skill. My interest was in design, and fortunately, I managed to build a solid career in the design and creative industry, now working mostly on digital products. Painting came back into my life as a way to unwind and reconnect with my creative side outside of work
I started painting in 2016, looking for something hands-on to balance my digital work. It wasn’t until 2023, though, that I really began to explore oil painting more seriously, setting aside regular time to experiment and grow. It’s been a rewarding shift, leading to a few exhibitions and, more importantly, a renewed sense of creativity.
Currently, I’m exploring a visual language through color and brushstrokes, leaving them loose and expressive. I paint to capture warmth and simple moments—like that feeling of being on a beach with the people you love, safe and at ease. That’s the feeling I want to hold in paint, to capture joy and tenderness in the ordinary.
Oil paint feels natural in my hands. The more I learn, the more I see how much I don’t know. I’ll keep the pieces closest to my heart, but the rest? They’re meant to be seen, to be enjoyed. Paintings shouldn’t sit stacked in storage, and as I work on larger pieces, space is becoming tight. Letting go is part of the work. It’s how these pieces find their purpose.
